Kelly Criss was inspired to enter the health care field by her father, who was battling cancer. While caring for him, he told her that she was a good nurse, and encouraged her to pursue it as a career. Although Ms. Criss had originally intended to go into law, she changed direction in his memory. She is currently the senior physician coding specialist for the University Hospitals of Cleveland, which is one of the nation’s leading health care systems.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Criss acquired a number of certifications, including ones in professional medical coding, anesthesia and pain management coding, gastroenterology coding, and medical billing. She is also a certified health care access associate. Driven by her desire to continue to learn, Ms. Criss hopes to pursue a master’s degree in public administration. She would like to be remembered for her independence and passion for achieving success.

When Ms. Criss isn’t working, she is traveling or riding motorcycles with her husband. She also participates in the AAPC.
