Title: Founder, Executive Director
Company: Eagle Academy Public Charter School
Location: District of Columbia
Founder of the Eagle Academy Public Charter School, Cassandra Pinkney came to serve young children from impoverished areas of D.C. whom I thought were being left behind later in her professional life. She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and human development from Howard University, and a master’s degree in early childhood, human development and special education from George Washington University. Ms. Pinkney tries her hardest to keep Eagle Academy Public Charter School within excellent standards, and intends on being remember for being a woman of her word.
The biggest challenge Ms. Pinkney has overcome is dealing with the education system, including double standards and the paperwork for charter schools. Her greatest strength is being an advocate for children, while similarly paralleling with her greatest accomplishment to date, which is being a mother. Ms. Pinkney’s professional goal is to continue growing the school so more children can get the education they deserve.
Ms. Pinkney is inspired by the children Eagle Academy Public Charter School touches every day. Outside of her efforts at the school, she supports Dress for Success and the Lupus foundation. During her free-time, she enjoys exercising, arts and crafts, and spending time with her husband.
