With expertise in working with the youth and elderly, Ms. Brown is responsible for overseeing operations and scholarships, working directly with Meals on Wheels, assisting the elderly with attaining heating and cooling systems, and helping with voter’s registration. Drawing upon an extensive background in elementary education in her professional endeavors, Ms. Brown considers her most outstanding career accomplishment thus far to be helping students to become more productive citizens through her work as a teacher.
In 1972, Ms. Brown earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Georgia State University, preparing herself for a successful career in her field. Prior to her current work, she taught in Columbia County for one year, Cobb County for five years and Atlanta for 25 years. Ms. Brown also served as an athletic coach for much of her time with the Atlanta public school system. Passionate about education, she enjoys her work with the Jefferson County Unification Organization because she gets to help people achieve their dreams with the help of a strong educational foundation and the provision of scholarships.
Passionate about reaching out and involvement in her communities, Ms. Brown is a member of Zeta Phi Beta and the International Women’s Leadership Association, and she supports the Kidney Foundation as well as her church groups. As she continues in her career, she hopes to network to give young people every advantage, and to work on applications for scholarships that have come into the organization. Inspired by her love of children and her desire to help, Ms. Brown wants most to be remembered for helping others. Due to her excellence in her profession, she was the recipient of the Teacher of the Year award during her first year of teaching.
