mzl.zispuobaTitle: Detective

Company: New York City Police Department

Location: New York, N.Y.

Detective Michelle Randall-Williams has been working for the New York City Police Department for more than 30 years. When she took the police test, she scored as one of the highest female candidates and went on to graduate with honors from the police academy. Ms. Randall-Williams was promoted to detective over 17 years ago and has worked in the security area protecting presidents, diplomats, and other people of note, including Mayor David Dinkins and Loretta King. Brought up in a multicultural religious family, she feels strongly about both faith and diversity and draws inspiration from her parents as well as her spiritual connection to God.

Drawing upon her educational background and her professional accomplishments, Ms. Randall-Williams feels she has challenged the stereotypes her male colleagues hold concerning women in law enforcement. As a successful African-American woman, she would like to teach and mentor other women in her field and create a more diverse team of police officers to protect New York City. She wants to be remembered as a caring person always looking to give back and make her city a safer place, and her devotion to her work has won her numerous awards from Women in Law Enforcement. Looking forward, Ms. Randall-Williams plans to continue working with the New York City Police Department and possibly pursue her own security agency. She likes to scuba-dive and ski in her free time and belongs to the National Brotherhood of Skiers. In addition to her significant law-enforcement skill set, Ms. Randall-Williams is also an emergency medical technician.
