Having began her career in the U.S. Navy, Jennifer Smith served her country for five years, working through the ranks before being hired by Southern California Edison in 1989, and has been with them for 12 years. As a utilities company, Southern California Edison relies on her seasoned expertise as sernior manager, supporting others, providing mentorship, and drawing out her co-workers best potential. Ms. Smith’s overall professional goal is to expand on her career, being able to help solve problems for the customer, employees and management.
Ms. Smith received a Master in Leadership and Management from La Verne University and Bachelor in Business Administration from La Verne University. Her biggest challenge was balancer her family and career, but finds her strength in helping people and their process improvement, and most importantly finds inspiration through her family. Ms. Smith’s advice to the younger generation of women entering the workforce is to “Never stop learning and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Speak up and contribute.”
Initially, Ms. Smith found transitioning careers very fluid, as her grandparents went through various life changes, including with work. She is a member of the National Conference of Standard of Laboratories International and the Measurement Science Conference. During her free-time, Ms. Smith volunteers with Feeding American, spends time with her granddaughter, cooks, bakes, and relaxes on the beach.
