In five years, Vicki Startfire became involved in her profession because she was a social worker for 10 years, working with street kids in Victoria, Canada, but it became stressful. So she moved onto teaching ESL in various universities in Japan for 15 years. The university was so technical and ESL was taught in a computer room, so she became pretty knowledgeable about marketing online. She also took up palm reading as a hobby and then it progressed into her current position. Ms. Starfire received a Master of Social Work from University of Washington and is currently venturing on a new path, retraining herself to be an online entrepreneur, and hopes to see success in her new field.

The most gratifying aspect of her career is the diversity of experience in many fields and a love of the endless differences between various people and their cultures. She says, “It amazes me that we as one species in a shrinking world can live so differently. To my knowledge no other species on this planet shows such diversity.” She attributes her success to the fact that she loves a challenge and has a grandfather who was a very important mentor in her life. He was a sharecropper’s son from a family of 10 children, and ended up a millionaire. He was the treasurer of the Board of Regents when she was at the University of Washington and got to really learn what was important. In the coming years, Ms. Starfire would like to be making money on her venture.
