Company: Roane State Community College

Location: Harriman, Tenn.

Initially, Ms. Darneta Brown became involved in the profession because she wanted to improve her community and thought being a nurse would help accomplish that goal. For the past 20 years, she has been distributing this dream by serving as associate professor at Roane State Community College. With an expertise in medical-surgical and psychological nursing, Ms. Brown develops quality care for patients, drawing upon 33 years in the health care profession.

The most gratifying aspect of Ms. Brown’s career is helping the nursing industry grow. She continues to successfully help by believing in herself and never giving up, even though she had dyslexia and always had to struggle with words and communication. As well, Ms. Brown draws from her educational pursuits, including master’s degrees in adult medicine and mental health nursing.

Since graduation, Ms. Brown keeps abreast of changes in her profession through her memberships with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, and National Association for Associate Nurses.
