Kristina Frey-Keller has worked a plethora of jobs to make ends meet. She started out majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in art at Mississippi State University, and followed that with an internship in Nashville, TN. Ms. Frey-Keller also served as a retail manager for decades, but eventually decided she had enough and began training at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Police Academy. Upon her graduation in 2006, she spent some time working as a Shelby County sheriff, which provided her with the knowledge and tools necessary to transition to her dream job.

Rebecca Farrar

A U.S. Army combat veteran, medic, and now a licensed practical nurse, Rebecca Farrar currently works with those trying to overcome post traumatic stress disorders as health advisor at the Veterans Peer Support Group Of Evansville. She saw combat in Iraq and suffers from it herself, so she is able to relate to her clients, and draws upon her two years of education from military school and her time at Ivy Tech Community College Evansville. Ms. Farrar’s biggest professional challenge was in the military, since she was a woman she had to prove herself and be better than everyone else, so she got on top of her game, and tries to instill this attitude in all her patients, male or female. Eileen Arend

Having been a registered nurse for more than 20 years, Eileen Arend continues her family’s tradition working in health care at Monroe Correctional Facility. Coming from a family of 10 nurses, health care was a natural next-step for her, as she previously had worked at a printing company as the only woman for seven years. After obtaining an Associates of Applied Science as a registered nurse, Ms. Arend earned certifications in substance abuse and corrections nursing. The advice she can share with the younger generation of women entering the workforce is that, “You don’t necessarily need to go to college but you do need to support yourself, so you need your education.
