Paula Bell found her direction at a young age; she’s known pretty much her whole life that she wanted to work in marketing and communications. She pursued her passion, and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Westminster College in 1980. While in school, Ms. Bell began working in a print shop running a printing press. She learned the industry, and it grew from there.
Using the knowledge and skills she learned, Ms. Bell bought her own franchise, Proforma Business Communications, in 2000. The company is a leader in the printing, promotional products, and packaging industries, and adds a creative edge to enhance value for clients. As the owner, Ms. Bell is responsible for overseeing the business, meeting with clients, and marketing materials and promotions from conception to finished product. She considers her greatest strength to be building and maintaining customer relationships. Looking to the future, Ms. Bell intends to experience continued growth, and to transition the current model of her business to include more employees and less subcontractors.
The biggest challenge Ms. Bell faced along her journey was age related, as she was so young when she broke into the industry. She quickly overcame those challenges and proved herself, however. The highlight of Ms. Bell’s career has been establishing her reputation and business. She is also proud of the charitable work she continues to do to promote the arts and rotary club. Ms. Bell attributes her success to her strong mother, who always encouraged her to know that anything was possible. If she could offer some advice to the younger generations herself, it would be to approach goals with confidence. When Ms. Bell isn’t working, she enjoys gardening. She is also a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association.
