After spending 17 years working for a hardware store, Sandra Guinn knew she wanted something different. She wanted to be more independent, and show everyone that she could succeed. Supported by her extensive knowledge of the products she dealt with at the store, Ms. Guinn decided to explore the world of sales. She joined Midwest Fastener Corp., a building materials company, in 1985 as a sales representative, and has been there ever since. Ms. Guinn’s position includes making cold calls, managing inventory, and merchandising products. She loves what she does, and says that there is nothing she would change.
One of the highlights of Ms. Guinn’s career occurred when her company set up an awards program for sales in the early 1990s. She was challenged to do half a million dollars in sales to receive a diamond ring, and she succeeded. Ms. Guinn considers her ability to service her customers to be her greatest strength, because in her experience, the better the service, the more willing they are to come back. She always makes sure to go above and beyond, and feels like some of her clients are part of her family. Looking forward, Ms. Guinn hopes to stay healthy and continue doing what she’s doing. When she isn’t working, she enjoys bowling, babysitting her grandsons, and fishing; in 2013, she was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. Ms. Guinn also volunteers at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, and is a member of The International Women’s Leadership Association.
