Beth A. Kroa, Ph.D.

Title: Associate Professor of Chemistry
Company: Bethel College
Location: Niles, MI United States

After years of teaching at a variety of high schools and universities, Beth A. Kroa landed at Bethel College, a Christian community of learners dedicated to building lives of commitment for leadership in the Church and in the world. She was drawn to and is passionate about the mission of the higher education institute, and currently serves as an associate professor of chemistry. Dr. Kroa’s responsibilities include overseeing the year-long organic chemistry sequence for science majors, and the one semester course in chemistry for the nursing and allied health professions. She occasionally teaches other courses, such as biochemistry laboratory or thermochemistry laboratory, and, as of 2013, she was appointed chair of the department of biology and chemistry.

In 2015, the president of Bethel College held a ceremony to recognize several employees for their exceptional work. Dr. Kroa was among those honored, because that fall, 100 percent of the students in her department who applied to medical school were accepted. The national average acceptance rate is 41 percent.

In preparation for her fruitful career, Dr. Kroa earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Toledo University. During her research with the program, she created a model that later served as a template for drug design in the treatment of asthma and allergies. Dr. Kroa attributes her success to her mentors, one of whom was her Ph.D. advisor, Max Funk. She is a member of Christian Women in Science and the American Chemical Society. Dr. Kroa is passionate about charitable organizations, such as World Vision and her church.
