Title: Research and Internship Assistant
Company: University of Denver
Location: Mountainburgm, AK United States
When Katelynn Wright was younger, she was told she had a thought disorder. Now, after continuous speech development, she has found a voice, and feels that she was not the only one who was muted. Ms. Wright wants to share and articulate those thoughts to others. To achieve her goals, she is pursuing a Master of Arts program at the University of Denver, and received a Bachelor of Arts in speech communications. She also taught in Beijing during the summer of 2015.
One of Ms. Wright’s greatest strengths is cultural theories. She is proud of developing a more global view in her transition to graduate school, and hopes to be remembered for the little conversations with people, including those of different mindsets. Ms. Wright is currently working as a research and internship assistant at the University of Denver because of the opportunities for international development in multi-cultural corporations. In her position, she is responsible for searching for internships within and outside of Denver for graduate and undergraduate students, updating the special opportunities page on the school’s website, and assisting graduate professors within the international and intercultural communication program at the university with any task relating to their research. This includes photocopying, editing, providing insight, and making sure the work adheres to APA guidelines.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Wright was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communications honor society, Phi Sigma Iota, the foreign languages honor society, Pi Kappa Delta, the forensics honor society, and Phi Kappa Phi, the national honor society. She is also an honored member of The International Women’s Leadership Association. Ms. Wright attributes her achievements to being part of the graduate program at the university, which has given her access to meeting professional people who she can learn a great deal from.
