With more than three decades of experience in the state government developing programs, Amy Butler has amassed an array of specialties. Her diverse background includes working with communities, businesses and higher education institutions on subjects such as energy efficiency, sustainability, alternative energy, and greening events, venues and festivals. Ms. Butler joined Oakland University nearly five years ago, and as their executive director, she deals with the industry, utilities, and businesses involved in the development of next generation advanced manufacturing technologies. She also oversees energy and process assessments, student internships, workforce training, and the development of innovative financing mechanisms.
Prior to her position as Oakland University, Ms. Butler served as the director of the bureau of energy systems for the Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth in the state of Michigan. In this role, she directed policy and program development and legislation, and coordinated agencies and stakeholders, including building local public private partnerships. Her goal was to align Michigan’s energy sector initiatives while promoting economic growth and job creation. Ms. Butler’s leadership developed real solutions to energy, environmental and economic challenges utilizing the best practices and the creation of programs such as the Clean Energy Advanced Manufacturing initiative. She continues to serve on the board of the National Association of State Energy Offices as a regional coordinator, and as a co-chair for the Buildings Committee and Energy Star Task Force. Ms. Butler was recently elected to the national board of the Energy Services Coalition, and has served nationally on the ANSI-ASQ Registry Accreditation Board. Additionally, she is the principle of her own company, Performance Energy Consulting, LLC.
