Title: Director of International Development
Company: Center for English Language Development,
University of Windsor
Location: Windsor, ON, Canada
Jennie Atkins has served as the director of the Center for English Language Development at the University of Windsor for the past 10 years. During her tenure at the university, she turned their summer English as a second language program into a full-fledged recruitment pathway program, which now operates out of two campus sites. Over the last year, her role has expanded to include overseeing the International Development portfolio of university partnerships and agreements. Ms. Atkins credits her tenacity, entrepreneurial leadership, attention to detail, and her advocacy for students as key attributes to her success. The support of family including her husband and 6-year-old son make it all worthwhile.
Ms. Atkins prepared for her career by earning an MBA in marketing and human resources in 2003, a master’s degree in English language and literature in 2001, and a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature in 1999, all of which came from the University of Windsor. She hopes to complete a Ph.D. someday, and would like to progress to a senior-level administrative position at the university.
