Passionate about writing plays, Maria Elena Torres has been interested and dedicated to theater since she was 16 years old. She got her start in the industry at SoHo Playhouse, where she spent the first year of her career with the company in residence. Now, aided by 36 years of experience, Ms. Torres has become an expert in historical research focusing on 15th century Europe, 18th century France, and late-19th century eastern Europe.

For the past five years, Ms. Torres has served as the artistic director of The Dramatic Question Theatre, a theater group she helped to found. The company is dedicated to developing and presenting their work to inner-city communities. In her current role, Ms. Torres handles the casting, production and play development for a variety of events, and does so successfully through her perseverance and patience. Looking forward, Ms. Torres would like to develop and produce more plays, and intends to broaden her arts and entertainment network in the New York City area.

Additionally, Ms. Torres is in the process of starting an outreach program for younger playwrights, through which she hopes to make an impact on the world of theater. To prepare for her career, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1980.  Now, Ms. Torres keeps abreast of changes in the arts field through her memberships with The Richard III Society, Inc. and The Bronte Society and Bronte Parsonage Museum.
