An active member of her community, Josephine Bird parlays 10 years of experience into her position as the president of Laie Point Community Association. The nonprofit organization provides a number of services, including beautification projects, newsletters, programs for adult and child safety, and a neighborhood watch. As the president, she is responsible for managing community services and organizing events. To prepare for her career, Ms. Bird completed coursework at Brigham Young University Hawaii in 1978, and coursework at Glendale Junior College, which is now Glendale Community College, in 1963.
In addition to serving the Laie Point Community Association, Ms. Bird has also been involved with projects like the May Day Court, lauhala weaving workshops and the Hawaiian Mormon sesquicentennial celebration. She authored two books, “Hawaiian Flower Lei Making” and “The Craft of Hawaiian Lauhala Weaving,” as well. Ms. Bird earned recognition for her success when she was honored as the Woman of the Year by the Koolauloa Chapter of the ABWA Management, LLC. Additionally, she was named Moloka’i Princess in 1982, Royal Court Queen in 1980, and Pa’u Rider on Kamehameha Day from 1979 to 1982. Ms. Bird is affiliated with the Mormon Pacific Historical Society, the Hawaiian Historical Society, and the Daughters of Hawai’i.
