Ms. Schumacher has written and published five books on neurological disorders, including epilepsy, Friedreich’s ataxia, bipolar disorder and cerebral palsy. In addition, she illustrated the jackets for her three most recent books. Her greatest achievement has been the publishing of her first book about a school in Hawaii. However, the highlights of her career were lecturing to medical students in the Ukraine and at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and receiving a master’s degree in psychology. Ms. Schumacher has presented 24 medical papers in Europe and China since 1985.
Ms. Schumacher is an advocate for social change, and plans to focus her doctoral thesis on uncovering hidden disorders through social change. Ms. Schumacher was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1940. A Texas native, she lived in many different parts of the United States while her husband served in the Navy, including Hawaii, California, Minnesota, and Connecticut. Ms. Schumacher has three daughters, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Ms. Schumacher spends her free time selling Mary Kay products, and she is also an artist.
