Inspired by people who work with students, Dr. Louise Kaltenbaugh recognizes their importance and quality in teaching so she can make a difference in the life of the student she cares for, as well. Currently, as director of the Southern University at New Orleans’ certification-only program, she is interacts with teachers and students to help them plan new career options, drawing upon her strength in one-on-one human interaction. Dr. Kaltenbaugh has helped hundreds of people become certified teachers, and intends on being remembered as someone who cared for all types and levels of students.
Although Dr. Kaltenbaugh intends to retire soon, she wishes to continue to be a portal for individuals so they can redefine who they are and what they want to become. She finds society as a whole – not being uplifting of the professionalism of teaching – there has been a decline in recognition and support of teachers, and her goal is to continue switching this notion within the profession. Dr. Kaltenbaugh also brings her support to the Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church, where she serves as Educational Coordinator, Choir Coordinator, Pastoral Steering Committee and is Sermonette speaks prior to the sermon as well.
An advocate of Saving Kids Unlimited, Dr. Kaltenbaugh helps the organization deal with emotional psychological issues and does conflict resolutions with them, including help with social aspects. She also supports the local human society, the Alzheimer’s Association, and American Diabetes Association. During her free-time, Dr. Kaltenbaugh enjoys gardening, bridge, reading professional journal articles, and dealing with teacher education.
