Drawing upon a strong career-focused foundation, K. Lynn Scott supports Aetna Inc. in their mission to provide customers with innovative health benefits through her position as vice president and general manager of public sector and labor. In tandem, her substantial background in management consulting and natural ability to think critically have resulted in an ability to maintain an external perspective when supporting clientele. Her customer-centric approach and ability to communicate for impact have proven invaluable to Aetna Inc., a company that values simplicity, focus, and connection.
Ms. Scott supports her work with finely-honed professional skill. Garnering 20 years of experience implementing marketing strategies, she has polished a strong sense of strategic discipline that assists her in delivering customer-focused solutions to states, counties, municipalities, educational institutions and multi-employer labor trusts. She has also worked as a principle consultant for Price Waterhouse Coopers LLP and feels that her previous mentors and partners have helped her in developing important professional ideas about adaptability and creativity.
Motivated by an early career goal to grow and manage a business, Ms. Scott earned a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, following a bachelor’s degree from Providence College. She attributes her educational focus to her father, who always pushed her toward academic success. Throughout her educational and professional development, Ms. Scott came up with goals for five-year increments and invested in herself, always placing her career first. Passionate about young women obtaining leadership roles, she advises women entering the workforce to make similarly goal-oriented decisions: “Make your way through the noise,” she says, recommending that they overcome material pressures in order to invest in their own advancement.
Ms. Scott also attributes her success to her husband, who has always supported her endeavors and encouraged her to succeed. She and her husband are both 9/11 survivors and support the America’s 9/11 Foundation along with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Her long term goals include continuing her good work at Aetna Inc., as well as eventually becoming an entrepreneur and working in the academic or non-profit space. In her free time, Ms. Scott enjoys sailing with her husband and going to the gym and the spa.
