Initially, Melissa Mahaney began her career as a medical-surgery nurse for a nonprofit hospital, as well as maintaining various roles as preceptor, educator, and nurse manager. She later found her passion for community nursing, serving 11 years in home care. She has served many roles in home care, including field nurse, case manager, team leader, clinical manager, local system director, and system director of clinical performance. She was also part of the Centers of Clinical Excellence at Bon Secours Health System, serving on the team that leads clinical innovation and strategy for across the continuum Catholic health care system. Ms. Mahaney has served in several adjunct faculty roles with a focus in nursing clinical and practicum practices for state universities in the area. 

Ms. Mahaney chose this career pathway in order to provide compassionate care and healing to all those she serves. From the time she was old enough to walk, she was providing nursing care to her stuffed animals, as she has always thought it was her calling to be a nurse. Although, she no longer provides hands on nursing care, it is an honor for her to lead hundreds of clinicians as they provide care to thousands of patients daily. Ms. Mahaney’s professional goal is continue her professional growth in settings across the care continuum impacting the patient experience through influencing and inspiring others to provide the care that is deserved by all people.  Eventually, she would like to obtain a Doctorate in Nursing Practice and use her experience and education to touch lives, inspire change and excellence.
