Attributing her success to strong creativity, Karen Swisher continues as president of Sierra Madre Grocery Company, a food and beverage supplier. She has had the opportunity to work on many great projects during her career and has successfully developed various food products for major brand organizations, as well as developing patterns for her own companies. Ms. Swisher chose this career path because she had taken a vocational test, in high school which indicated that food science was a favorable career path for her to pursue.

Ms. Swisher holds a Bachelors of Science in food science, which she received from California Polytechnic State University, in 1983. She also has vast experience in food science. The biggest challenge that she has had to overcome was being a two time cancer survivor. Personally, Ms. Swisher’s greatest accomplishment is her daughter and her marriage; professionally her greatest accomplishment is her food development.

The one aspect that Ms. Swisher would like to see change is the misconception that  food needs to be organic. She feels organic food is way too overrated. We have survived for centuries on basic food and believe that people need to stick to the basics.
