Garnering more than three decades of accrued experience in the health care industry, Shirley Adriance effectively serves Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Del Rio, Texas, as the director of performance improvement. Through her role, she is directly involved in the preparation for compliance and performance improvement. Her additional responsibilities include providing a non-physician review of medical records for compliance needs, and directing and assisting all performance improvement projects, among other duties.

Having always had a passion for health care, Ms. Adriance earned a Master of Science in nursing to fulfill her lifelong dream of helping others. Also a registered nurse, she believes that she has sustained success for 38 years due to her strength in improving the patients’ outcomes. “I believe my greatest accomplishment is that I’ve helped people,” she states. A humble professional, Ms. Adriance is inspired daily by the support of her community.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Adriance would like to see positive changes affect the health care industry. Particularly, she would like to see improvement of the automated systems, as it can sometimes be difficult to enter data in the place it should be in a timely fashion. Additionally, she would like to increase the requirements for reporting and evaluate the processes the medical center currently has in place. “I would like to know that the work goes on without me, and that it continues to improve!” she says.

Aside from her passion for medical work, Ms. Adriance enjoys cooking, gardening reading, traveling, and spending time with her four children and 11 grandchildren.
