Having garnered 30 years of medical research experience, Dr. Iris Mueller continues in her sixth year as chief operating officer at Thrombosis Research Institute.  There, she provides expertise in global pharmaceutical business operations, global, regional and national product launches, and development of global product positioning and profiling strategies, including the implementation of business and clinical strategies and plans, from phase one to four and late phases. Dr. Mueller also provides medical education for health care professionals and patients, management of global multifunctional teams, development and implementation of organizational change-management strategies, and development of life cycle management strategies and plans for innovative molecules in early stages of development, as well as mature products in multiple therapeutic areas, such as cardiovascular medicine, oncology and immunology, internal medicine and gastroenterology, neurology and psychiatry, urology and various OTC products.

Dr. Mueller attributes her success to her passion for her work as an MD in health care; she strongly believes that driving and implementing innovation in health care is serving the never-ending purpose of maintaining and restoring health and quality of life, as well as social and economic strength on a global level. She is embracing change and enjoys leading teams to success. Her success is made possible by the motivation she gives to others, the constant definition of common goals and the celebration of shared success. Initially, Dr. Mueller became involved in her profession because she was fascinated by the human body and the sciences related to it. She left medical practice and joined the pharmaceutical industry in order to be part of developing innovative medicines and for supporting patient access to improved therapies.

After studying medicine in Munich, Germany, Dr. Mueller started practicing internal medicine and cardiology for close to four years. In 1989, she joined the pharmaceutical industry, where she remained for 20 years. She has held regional and global roles in medical marketing, medical affairs and business operations. She was previously in senior management in the business and clinical operations of the pharmaceutical industry.
