Company: Cardno

Location: Tampa, Fla.

As a professional surveyor and mapper, Deborah Hill continues as assistant director at Cardno, where she pursues her professional goals to grow, learn more about land and the technology that maps it, and always be there for her co-workers when in need. She loves to communicate with people and has a strong work ethic, and is surrounded by well-educated and trained surveyors to use sophisticated equipment to analyze data and, in a way, take all the pieces of the puzzle and put them together using math, technology, real estate knowledge, knowledge of the law as it pertains to the profession and work with clients both small and large to provide information that is the ground work for all the projects that are built and designed in every facet of life. Ms. Hill would like to be remembered as someone who was supportive as a professional and a friend, who was fair, honest, liked, and provided quality services to all her clients.

In the 1980’s, Ms. Hill was the second woman to graduate with a degree in surveying and mapping from the University of Florida. She since maintained many great mentors, who guided her through the learning process, which continues as her interest in geomatics continues to grow. Her biggest challenge is the ever-changing technology; surveying has grown in so many ways from the introduction of GPS, GIS/LIS, to Laser Scanning and Mobile LiDAR the challenges are never-ending. Throughout her career, Ms. Hill’s greatest accomplishment to date is getting to her current position, as she is also very proud and humbled to be appointed to the Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers.
