Mary Rennebohm

mrTitle: Independent Educational and School Counselor

Location: Tualatin, Ore.

Ms. Rennebohm wrote an article titled, “Counseling Abroad: Using Your Skills in the World.”  This article was published in the book, “Empowering the 21st Century Professional School Counselor” through the American School Counselor Association. She has attended numerous conferences and written publications on counseling related issues.   She currently works in the Forest Grove School District in Oregon where she is a full time Middle School Counselor for students in grades 7-8.   During the course of her career, she has worked in various International Schools in Dubai, Singapore, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.  She has been a School Counselor for 26 years.

Ms. Rennebohm is one of five children. Her siblings live in Oregon, Washington,  and Australia. She is grateful for her experiences living overseas which have proven to be incredible adventures that provided her with the opportunity to meet and get to know people from all parts of the world.  She has come to realize that human nature is very similar all over the world; however, it is culture and family that define how our lives are shaped and influenced.  Ms. Rennebohm has been able to work with children from 3- 18, which has offered her a wide spectrum of development and experience.

On a daily basis, she has been reminded that children possess a natural curiosity. She finds it both rewarding and meaningful to help them learn and develop their potential on a daily basis.  As a Counselor, she has been able to help share the realities and dreams of children from all around the world. This has enriched and touched her life in significant ways. Her work as a School Counselor has allowed her to touch lives around the world.  She considers it a privilege and honor to be able to reach out and touch the lives of others on a daily basis.  While sometimes it can be as simple as sharing a smile with a student, at other times, it can be helping a child put the pieces of life together after a family divorce or crisis.  Whatever the circumstance, she has found that the presence of a caring human being can, indeed, change the life of another person. During the next five years, Ms. Rennebohm would like to continue School Counseling in Oregon and travel around the world.
