Having worked within the case management arena for 27 years, Cathy Barnes has spent the past 17 years as a residential case manager for Talbert House in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, she helps the health care provider with mental health care, including treatments for patients with behavioral disorders, determined to helping those in need of her expertise, and hard work to achieve success within her patients. Ms. Barnes is most attracted to the diversity and challenge of her career because it involves helping those in need, as this fulfills her passion.

Throughout her work-week, Ms. Barnes counsels the residents, prepares progress notes, sets plans and evaluations, and facilitates individual and group meetings. She also trains new employees, monitors resident’s progress along with obstacles and their conditions, and maintains a report with other case manages and professionals. As well, she develops service plans, evaluates how well the resident achieves them, facilitates illness management and recovery sessions, and monitors residents taking medications. In five years, Ms. Barnes hopes to counsel at a nursing home.
