Title: Program Director of Wisconsin HIV Primary Care Support Network
Company: Medical College of Wisconsin
Location: Racine, Wisc.
In 1981, Janice R. Hand began her career in health care with those who have hemophilia. In addition, she began developing the Wisconsin HIV Primary Care Support Network, which is a statewide organization that addresses the medical and social service needs of children, youth, and women with HIV and their families. In addition to intensive case management services for children, youth and women with HIV, they have a perinatal HIV prevention program that provides intensive case management for pregnant women. Ms. Hand also owns a tavern in Racine, Wyo., CHL, which was previously called City Haul Lounge.
Throughout 38 years, Ms. Hand has continued to refine her expertise in program development, grand management, and government advocacy. She has been working for the Medical College of Wisconsin for 19 years, and began directing her program there. The most gratifying aspect of her career is the knowledge that her program has saved children’s’ lives, as her services help mothers with HIV to significantly reduce the likelihood of bearing a baby with HIV. Since 2005, all expectant mothers who have received services through her program have given birth to HIV-free babies. In five years, Ms. Hand intends to intend to train a successor.
