Angela Lattimore

progressive-care-UNITTitle: Team Leader of the Progressive Care Unit

Company: University of Tennessee

Location: Knoxville, Tenn.

Having chosen the health care career path at an early age, Angela Lattimore has naturally progressed in the medical arena, attributing her on-going success to her determination, leadership and passion to help others. Currently as team leader of the progressive care unit at the University of Tennessee, she draws upon her greatest strength as a team player who remains calm, focuses her listening, and creates a positive leadership role with her nurses. Ms. Lattimore holds a Master of Science in health management from Augustine University, earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Carson Newman College, and is ACLS certified and NIHSS stroke certified.

Ms. Lattimore would advise young women to “be sure that they choose a career that they are passionate about and to go for an advanced degree. An associate degree really isn’t enough anymore. I feel that the AACN and the Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. organizations have truly benefited me in my professional growth, as well.” Her current professional goals are to be a director of a clinical department where she can make differences that impact her staff and the patients. Thus far, Ms. Lattimore’s biggest challenge has been overcoming the re-education process involving constantly changing healthcare laws, budgeting and  finances within the healthcare and nursing industry.

Ms. Lattimore’s greatest accomplishment is her pride as a successful nurse, and completing a master’s program, and maintaining a routine of keeping herself abreast of changes in her field. Her inspiration stems from her parents, who told her to be the best she can be, which does and tries to lead-by-example for her own children. She wants to be remembered firstly for being empathetic, as a skilled registered nurse at the bedside with a positive force, and being able to transition this into leadership. During her free-time, Ms. Lattimore enjoys travel and swimming.
