Initially, Melanie Bond Cromes became involved in her profession because she grew up in a mining town and was interested in minerals and the environment. Through 18 years of success in metallurgical engineering, lead by good luck and being goal oriented, she currently is the owner of Cromes Metallurgical Consulting. As a metallurgical consulting company, Ms. Cromes provides mineral processing plant troubleshooting, bench-top research, project management, personnel training, and technical extractive metallurgical and mineral processing services to clients in and around Lead, S.D.
Ms. Bond Cromes received a Master of Science in environmental science from the University of Idaho in 1999. Since graduation, she has professionally become an expert in metallurgical engineering, primarily in grinding, classification and selective flotation, including industrial waste-water treatment. She is also an honorary member of the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society, and keeps abreast of changes in her profession through her members with the National Society of Professional Engineers, Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, and Northwest Mining Association. In five years, Ms. Bond Cromes plans to open a multi-service metallurgical laboratory in the town of Lead, S.D.
