Sharon MacDonald with be remembered for making a difference in education on an international level. She attributes her success to her love for all students and wanting to do what is best for them. She is an advocate for inner city students and understands the importance of building their self-esteem, as they have lost of energy and she does things differently to keep their productive minds adaptive and challenge ready. Ms. MacDonald advises young women “to always keep their options open. Give the best that you can. New opportunities always present themselves and you will stand out from the rest. Community outreach will connect you with mentors that may be pivotal in your future.”
Currently, Ms. MacDonald is earning a doctorate in educational leadership and administration through American International College, having already a master’s degree in education from Springfield College, and is certified in administration. As a professional, her biggest challenge is working in the city with students who are 97% poverty ridden. She is an expert networker with agencies, has a supportive team, and is innovative when it comes to creating new strategies and implementation. Ms. MacDonald’s current goal is to work at the college or university level, as she is passionate about education.
Ms. MacDonald has published a chapter in the book, “Powerful Partners In Student Success: Schools, Families and Communities,” contributing to Chapter Five, published by Learning Disabilities Worldwide. She has also earned the Founders Day Award through Zonta. To keep abreast of changes in her interests outside her professional nervousness, she is the Key Club Advisor for Kiwanis International, and holds membership with Zonta International. During her free-time, Ms. MacDonald conducts the after-school program at Trinity United Church, enjoys traveling international, and attends conferences for Kiwanis and Zonta.
