German native, Dr. Carola Leuschner first completed her education at Leibniz Universität Hannover in 1988 before moving to America to pursue her career in pharmaceutical sciences. Currently, she provides independent consulting at Esperance Pharmaceuticals, drawing upon in-depth and company specific knowledge. Dr. Leuschner has been with the company for eight years in Baton Rouge, LA, and first began as the pharmaceutical company’s senior director of biology.
Dr. Leuschner initially became involved by being interested in conducting research with human application and cancer studies. She believes her professional arena is a promising field where she can make a difference in people’s lives. Dr. Leuschner’s advice to other females entering the workforce is to choose something that involves their passion so they’re happy on a daily basis.
From Esperance Pharmaceuticals Inc.: “For the last decade Dr. Leuschner’s research has focused on the development of anti-cancer drugs and imaging systems for non-invasive cancer detection in applications for prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers as Assistant Professor in the Department of Reproductive Biotechnology at Pennington Biomedical Research Center (PBRC) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She also served as an Instructor in the Department of Diet and Heart Disease at the Pennington Biomedical Center.
“Dr. Leuschner obtained her doctorate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Hannover, Germany with postdoctoral training at the Department of Technical Microbiology of Hamburg University, Germany. She has published two book chapters, over 40 peer reviewed articles and holds several patents. Dr. Leuschner is the recipient of the Nano50 2006 Technology Award.”
