Dr. Ana Hnat has been in charge of the foreign languages department at Houston Community College System for the past 25 years and has been teaching foreign languages since the early 1980s. Garnering 36 years of expertise in education, she continues to provide her skills in grammar, linguistics, and language arts in English, Spanish, and French. In five years, Dr. Hnat will be retired.
Throughout her work-week, Dr. Hnat teaches a Spanish class, hires staff for her department, and has meetings with the discipline committee to work on the syllabus. She believes her success stems from her knowledge of different subjects, passion for teaching, and enjoying the company of all her students. Initially, Dr. Hnat became involved in her profession because her grandparents spoke Arabic, which intrigued her, and she loved the idea of teaching. She has always been interested in languages.

Since graduating with a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Houston, Dr. Hnat keeps abreast of changes in her profession through her memberships with ALFAL, Society of Linguistics in Latin America, and the PCTTA.
